If you have no idea where Gozo is, don't worry!  You are not the only one and in fact very few North Americans have ever heard of this small gem of an island.  Gozo is the smaller of the two populated Maltese islands in the country of Malta.  Its location in the central Mediterranean is about 4 miles (6 km) from the main island of Malta.  Gozo is roughly 55 miles (90 km) south of Sicily (which can be seen from our island on very clear days) and 185 miles(300 km) north of Africa's Mediterranean coast.

Gozo is located in one of the most southerly parts of Europe.  At 36 degrees, Gozo is on roughly the same latitude as American cities such as Nashville TN, Las Vegas NV, Charlotte NC, and Fresno CA.  Internationally, Gozo is about as far south as Athens, Greece.

The island of Gozo is 9 miles long (14.5 km) and 4.4 miles wide (7 km).  Its area is comparable to the size of the island of Hong Kong.

30,000 of Malta's 400,000 residents live on Gozo.  About 6,000 of Gozo's residents live in the capital (and surprisingly bustling) city of Victoria and the rest reside in the island's many lovely villages.
