Nightlife
All about nightlife in Gozo from clubbing and wine bars to opera and ballet.

Nightlife in the form of clubs and discos is somewhat limited in Gozo when you compare it to the amped up, concentrated party atmosphere of Paceville on the island of Malta. But there is a selection of nightclubs in Victoria and also a disco near Xlendi. Special events involving popular DJ's as well as 80's Nights and 70's Nights are advertised by leaving glossy flyers in cafes and other public places.

Nightlife guides for Malta tend to stress the age range of the people who frequent the different clubs. I haven't found anything as specific for Gozo, but it's safe to assume that 70's night will have an older crowd than a 'rave'.

Somewhere, in the Aurora Complex, is a club that gets 1000 or more people on weekends. It's interesting to note that this club and another one that is across from the Gozo Sports Complex are not readily apparent from the street save for the well-dressed doorman.

The Miami Herald called La Grotta near Xlendi 'the most beautiful disco in the world'. It is only opened seasonally. There is another club above La Grotta that I suspect is there for people who realize that they are too old to go to La Grotta.

The cafes and wine bars of Victoria all have their regular evening customers. It's easy to find a place to while away the hours and socialize. And there is often ample outdoor and even rooftop seating. And a late dinner and some social drinking or coffee at a cafe in most any village square is always a treat.

The Cafe Jubilee usually has the sound system at just the right volume to allow you to have a normal conversation while enjoying  the music.  This place has great mid-priced food and there are theme nights where the DJ plays music from one band or one sub genre.

If Opera, Ballet and/or Theatre interests you there are plenty of one-off events between October and May, but no long running or regular shows.

This October, a production of la Boheme will take place at the Aurora Opera House .

A family restaurant on Triq Fortunato Mizzi has a country music night every second Friday. We have enjoyed ourselves there, the playlist of the talented  band actually veered more towards classic 50's and early 60's rock and some of the popular Maltese folk songs were great crowd pleasers.

There are a few casinos over on Malta, at least two of them have a hotel.
Any visitor who has ID proving they are over 18 can enter a casino in Malta.
