As a foreign national residing in Gozo your income tax situation will depend on whether you are considered a temporary resident or a permanent resident. In both situations, you are taxed on the income (not capital) you bring into Malta (for living expenses and so on), not your total world income. Read on for the details. Permanent residents: Permanent residents pay a flat income tax rate of 15 percent on the money they bring into Malta every year. This is subject to a minimum income tax of Lm1,800. Temporary residents: Temporary residents who are in Malta for a period of less than six months per calendar year are not liable to pay income tax in Malta. Those who stay longer than six months must pay tax at the following rates on only the income they bring into Malta during the year:
