San Lawrenz is built on a plain. This small charming village is surrounded by three hills, Ta' Ghammar, Ta' Gelmus and Ta' Dbiegi which, rises 195 metres above sea level and is Gozo's highest point. Dwejra Bay is adjacent to the village, it a geological marvel that attracts tourists and Gozitans.

San Lawrenz has managed to maintain a traditional rural lifestyle is very much in this century in most practical ways. The area was considered a neighborhood of Gharb until it was declared a separate parish in 1893 at which time the people named the village after their patron saint.
