| Renting a Car |

Car rental, or car hire, is available from a large number of garages on Gozo. Several businesses offer both self drive car rentals and chaffeur service. Car rentals on Gozo are inexpensive and a particularly good value given the cost of taxis. Besides the typical range of vehicles offered anywhere, there are 'Safari Jeeps'. These have bench seating and a removeable soft roof. Generally, they don't have seatbelts in the rear. Some, but not all of the car hire garages offer cars with automatic transmissions but manual transmissions (stick shifts) are still the default. Always get the collision damage waiver which will cover the Lm100 to Lm200 deductible should you cause an accident (it's usually around Lm2.50 extra). Per day charges are the norm, generally with unlimited mileage, and your rate will drop if you rent for longer than a day or two. You should pay from Lm9 to Lm15 a day for a compact car depending on the season. You are expected to return the car with the fuel indicator at the same level as it was when you received the car, usually this means almost empty. Between Lm2 and Lm5 in fuel should be sufficient for a day's driving on Gozo. Discuss this article on the forums. (0 posts) |
